What to expect
Clinic visits begin with history and examination, followed by imaging or lab advice when needed. Elective laparoscopic lists are scheduled after anaesthesia review; day-care versus overnight stays depend on the procedure and fitness—not every patient needs the same length of stay.
Prepare for your visit
- Bring prior investigation CDs, discharge summaries, and medication cards
- For planned anaesthesia assessments, follow written fasting instructions only when the OT desk confirms the time—routine consultations usually do not need fasting
- Inform us about blood thinners, pacemakers, or recent infections so lists can be planned safely
When to seek urgent surgical help
- Sudden severe abdominal pain with rigid abdomen or persistent vomiting
- Trauma with open wounds, uncontrolled bleeding, or suspected fracture after a fall
- Painful groin or abdominal bulge that cannot be pushed back, or fever with spreading skin infection—call or travel to emergency services as directed
Cross-department coordination
Laparoscopic and open procedures share the same NABH perioperative pathways as maternity, eye day-care surgery, and dental cases needing sterile theatre backup. Diabetics heading for elective surgery can align glucose checks with retina follow-up in the eye department when both teams recommend tighter control before an operation.
